Head Coach Melanie Balcomb
On Christina Foggie’s performance…
“She’s been very focused. I can see it in practice, in shoot-around. I’ve talked to her about it and she’s just really confident, but she’s bringing another level of focus that she’s never had and it’s carried over to the game.”
On the team’s inability to maintain a 30-point lead in the second half…
“We have a young team and I think it’s difficult to maintain that lead and to maintain the intensity and the level of consistency we feel that we need. When you get up that big, we haven’t had any trouble with that earlier in the season, but this game I think we did and I think we just got a little complacent.”
On forcing more turnovers in the first half than the second half…
“The second half we changed our defense. We did a switching man and then we started causing turnovers and got in transition, but we just didn’t have the same focus defensively. Offensively, they were doubling our posts and forcing our posts to go fast and that’s why Foggie got so many shots, but then they did a good job in the second half. They’re going to adjust and not leave her open anymore, so it’s a game of adjustments. Eric’s a very good coach. I’ve known him for years. I knew he was going to make adjustments at half time and we’d have to adjust to those adjustments.”
On her stand-out performance in the last three games…
“I’ve pretty must just been in a nice flow and my teammates have been setting really good screens, so I’ve gotten a lot more three than I normally do lately.”
On starting the season with an 8-0 record…
“We’re excited. We just want to keep working hard and not settle or be complacent and just keep working hard and building each day.”
On the team’s defensive performance…
“I think we really stress defense especially coming out in the first half and we try and get our offensive energy off our defense.”
On out-rebounding Denver…
“We knew they didn’t have very tall posts, but at the same time we know every game that we have to crash the boards and get good defensive rebound position.”
