Commodores Enter Season in Top 10

Vanderbilt earns top ten ranking for fifth consecutive season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team enters the 2020 spring season as the No. 10 team in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division 1 women’s team rankings released Wednesday.

This marks the Commodores’ fifth consecutive season in the top-10 preseason rankings.

Last season the Dores entered the season at No. 2 in the rankings.

Vanderbilt concluded the 2018-19 season sporting a 19-8 overall record and a 10-3 conference mark.

At home, the Dores only dropped two matches and advanced to the semifinals of the SEC Championship where they fell to eventual champion South Carolina 4-1. In the NCAA tournament, Vanderbilt advanced to the quarterfinals to take on No. 1 Georgia.

In a close battle, Georgia clinched the match 4-3 to conclude the Dores’ run in the tournament.

This season, the Commodores welcome three new freshmen to the team. Marcella Cruz, Dasha Kourkina and Anna Ross will enter their first dual match season beginning Jan. 24 when the Dores host the ITA Kick-Off.

Vanderbilt welcomes back four veteran players featuring two seniors Christina Rosca and Emma Kurtz.

Vandy head coach Geoff Macdonald will enter his 26th season at Vanderbilt with associate head coach Aleke Tsoubanos who enters her 13th season with the Commodores.

Vanderbilt kicks off the 2020 season in Coral Gables, Florida, as it competes in the Miami Spring Invite beginning Jan. 18.
