Frances Altick is a sophomore from Monroe, La., and a member of the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team. Altick was named to the All-Southeastern Conference First Team this season after posting an overall record of 28-7, including 9-1 in league action. The Commodores will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament starting Friday at the Currey Tennis Center.

How did you get into tennis?
My dad played and I had an older brother and he played. I just started hitting when I was little and got more into it when I started playing in tournaments around 12 years old.

Why did you decide to come to Vanderbilt?
It was the combination of everything. I really wanted a school with good academics and I wanted to play in the SEC, because that’s one of the strongest tennis conferences. I came here and really liked it on my visit and enjoyed Nashville, so it was just a really great combination.

Hobbies?
It’s really busy when I’m here at school, so any free time I have I like to either spend it with friends or relax by reading or watching a movie.

If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
I would want to be able to read minds because I’m always wondering what people are thinking.

Favorite movie?
Shawshank Redemption.

Last concert attended?
Keith Urban.

If you could have dinner with three people?
Nelson Mandela, my brother and Jesus.

Most visited websites?
I always go on Twitter. I usually check VUCommodores and read the latest. I like to keep up with all of the sports. I like to stay updated with the news, so I’ll check out USA Today as well.

Name someone that impacted your life.
My mom has had a big impact on my life. My brother, who died when I was 15, played tennis before me and was my best friend, so he has definitely inspired how I live.

Favorite Childhood Toy?
I always liked the Little Tikes Taxi Cab.

What will you be doing 10 years from now?
I love languages, so I want to be somewhere speaking Spanish. I’m majoring in communications and minoring in Spanish and would like to be able to use those two together. I’d love to go abroad, maybe to Honduras, and just go make an impact.
