Redmond joined Vanderbilt after 25 years of working with high school athletes, mostly at Montgomery Bell Academy, an all-boys preparatory school in Nashville. Having served multiple roles at the secondary level, Redmond joins the Vanderbilt staff prepared to support student-athletes at the highest level, understanding what it takes to be successful on the field and in the classroom.

During his 21-year tenure at MBA, Redmond served a number of roles, including coaching track and football, overseeing the strength and conditioning program for nine sports, being responsible for compliance for all sports sanctioned by the Tennessee Secondary Sports Athletic Association, serving as the Associate Athletics Director helping with daily activities and sporting events and more. He also worked in the admissions office where he coordinated and assisted with campus tours, entrance exams, interviews and other admissions events and he served on a DEI committee, working directly with students, faculty and staff to make the campus a place where everyone can grow into their best selves.

Perhaps most significantly, Redmond spent decades interacting directly with thousands of students as an advisor and mentor, guiding them in all aspects of their lives.

Redmond also spent four years at Brentwood Academy where he served as coach to the defensive backs. He coached and mentored cornerback Jalen Ramsey, No.10 on Rivals Top 100 college prospects list, Rivals No. 3 ranked cornerback, 247Sports No.5 ranked cornerback and College News First Team Freshman All-American.

Redmond’s success as a coach and mentor can be seen in the accolades received by his teams and players. Redmond was instrumental in developing more than 18 Division I defensive backs. That list includes six Ivy League signees, two ACC signees and four SEC signees, two signees to the United States Naval Academy, a Gatorade Player of the Year, a Parade All-American, a Semper Fidelis All-American and a U.S. Army All-American.

During Redmond’s 25 years at the high school level his teams made 13 state title appearances and four state semifinal appearances and won seven Division II AAA State Football Championships. Five of his players won Defensive MVP in state title games and he has been a part of four USA Today top 25 rankings.

Redmond coached briefly at the University of Colorado where he worked with strength coach, E.J. “Doc” Kreis.

A native of Savannah, Georgia, Redmond spent his high school years in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Redmond was a standout at Oak Ridge High School where he was a Second Team All-State Selection, First Team All-East Tennessee Selection and Tennessee All-Star Selection.

He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Middle Tennessee in the winter of 1997. At Middle Tennessee he was a three-year starter at cornerback, a two-time All-OVC defensive back and part of three Ohio Valley Conference Championships and one Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track Championship.

Redmond played for College Football Hall of Fame Inductee James “Boots” Donnelly and ran for head track and 1988 Olympic coach Dean Hayes.

In 1993, he was invited to play in the Kodak Hula Bowl and was named one of the top 25 college defensive backs in the country by USA Today. Redmond participated in the 1993 NFL Combine and joined the New York Jets training camp as a free agent in May 1993.

In December 1993 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him to their development squad and, in May 1994, Redmond joined the Denver Broncos training camp as a free agent. He played two seasons in the Canadian Football League before returning to Nashville.

Redmond has one son, Cade.
