Named Second Team All-SEC by both the league head coaches and Associated Press… Also recognized on Athlons[apos] postseason All-SEC unit… One of the SEC[apos]s top cover cornerbacks, Hal earned 11 starts in his final season… Voted by teammates as defensive co-captain… Finished with 49 total tackles, including 33 solo stops, three interceptions and a fumble recovery… Added 6.5 tackles for loss from his cornerback position… Topped the SEC – and ranked among NCAA leaders – with 18 passes defended… Registered at least two tackles in 11 games… Posted tremendous effort – nine total tackles, an interception and three defensed passes – in team[apos]s 41-24 victory over Houston in the BBVA Compass Bowl… Opened the year with a 7-solo tackle, 9-total stop performance vs. Ole Miss… Contributed interceptions in back-to-back wins at Florida and vs. Kentucky… Had five solo tackles against Gators… Had two tackles for loss and three tackles at Tennessee… Earned postseason invitation to prestigious Reese[apos]s Senior Bowl.
2012
Earned Second Team All-Southeastern Conference defensive back recognition from Associated Press sportswriters after the regular season… Played impressively in first season as starter… Has started all 13 games at cornerback for the Commodores[apos] defensive unit, registering 48 total tackles… Also contributed 36 solo stops and topped the Commodore secondary with 14 passes defended… Ranked second on team with two two interceptions… Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week for his play in a 41-18 rout of Tennessee, recording two INTs versus Tennessee and totaling 68 return yards to set up Vanderbilt touchdowns… Contributed three passes defended in team[apos]s victory over North Carolina State in Music City Bowl.
2011
Hal served as the Commodores[apos] leading kick returner and was a key player in the defensive secondary… Contributed 21 total tackles from cornerback position… Posted first career interception at South Carolina… Had season high in tackles (4) at Alabama… Registered three solo tackles vs. Arkansas and Ole Miss… As kickoff returner, Hal averaged 23.8 yards, racking up 738 yards on 31 returns, including a 96-yard TD return against Georgia… The 96-yard TD return tied him for fourth longest in team history and was the first kickoff return for a TD since Warren Norman went 80 yards against Georgia Tech in 2009… Twice posted over 100 yards in the return game: 157 yards against Georgia and 129 yards against Arkansas.
2010
One of five true freshmen to play in the Commodore secondary, Hal broke into the starting lineup late in the season after serving much of the year as a reserve defensive back and special teams contributor… Played in all 12 games, earning starts at cornerback against Florida and Wake Forest… Notched career-high tackle total (7) in first career start vs. Gators… Also posted pair of tackles in win over Eastern Michigan, and in SEC games against Kentucky and Tennessee… As starting return specialist late in season, averaged 23.6 yards on 11 kickoff returns… Earned team[apos]s Specialist of the Week honor after returning two Gator kicks for 58 yards.
High School
Senior captain… Four-year starter at DB… Named defensive MVP as senior for school located across Mississippi River from Baton Rouge… Shutdown CB as senior, helping Pelicans play for district title and advance to first round of 3A state playoffs… Contributed 53 total tackles and four INTs as senior, earning first team 3A All-State honors after returning five kickoffs for scores… Also had three TD receptions… Averaged nearly 40 yards as punt returner… Added All-District honors… As junior, posted five INTs… Standout in basketball and track & field… Former starter on hoops squad; member of 3A state champion 4×200-meter relay foursome that also set state record.
