Fifth-year senior signal caller and senior co-captain won the starting QB job out of fall camp and held first-team spot through the first six games of the season, helping Commodores to a 4-2 record over that span… In final appearance as Commodore, played effectively in second second half of AutoZone Liberty Bowl, completing 8-of-19 passes for 142 yards and one TD… Connected with WR Chris Boyd on 68-yard TD, longest of his career… Completed 57.3 percent of passes (59 of 103) in first six games for 481 yards with three touchdowns against five INTs… Threw for VU[apos]s first touchdown of the year against Elon, a 15-yard strike to fullback Fitz Lassing… Also ran in a 16-yard score against Elon… Season-high 140 yards against UConn included a 42-yard TD to Chris Boyd… Completed 12-of-16 passes against South Carolina… Lined up at wideout before receiving a lateral and connecting with Jordan Matthews on a 45-yard third-quarter touchdown at Wake Forest.

2010
Despite working with spread attack for second straight season, Smith did not enjoy improved production as a second-year starting quarterback… After promising first half of season, Smith struggled with accuracy, consistency and injuries during the latter stages of year… Started first 11 games, missing the finale to injury… Finished year with single-season career highs with 117 completions, 1,262 passing yards, six TD passes, 248 rushing yards and four rushing TDs… Helped efficiency by allowing just five interceptions but completed less than 50 percent of attempts… Was 19 of 33 for 240 yards and a score in opener vs. Northwestern, then completed 16 of 27 for 253 yards and two TDs in midseason win over Eastern Michigan… Threw just one TD pass in final six games… Combined for 221 yards and three scores at Connecticut, and registered 35 rushing yards and a TD to aid victory at Ole Miss.

2009
Given starting nod at conclusion of preseason camp, Smith started nine consecutive games until suffering a season-ending hamstring injury early in the Georgia Tech game… Struggled for much of first season as starter for offense that lacked experience at wide receiving positions, but was showing solid improvement at time of injury… Finished year with 106 completions in 227 attempts (46.7 percent) for 1,126 yards and four touchdowns… Also threw seven interceptions… Pass yardage total ranks No. 7 all-time among Commodore sophomore quarterbacks… Also rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns in 85 attempts… Was injured running out-of-bounds on 35-yard rush, longest of the season… Completed 10 of 18 passes for 153 yards and a score in win over Western Carolina… Shared team[apos]s Offensive Player of the Week honors with receiver John Cole in win over Rice by setting career highs in completions (23) and passing yards (268)… In last complete outing, was 16 of 33 for 132 yards while rushing for 45 yards at South Carolina… Completed both pass attempts, one for a touchdown, in early stages of Georgia Tech game.

2008
Former Alabama Prep Player of the Year saw action in just two games – season finale at Wake Forest and Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl – but made the most of his opportunities… First career start came in team[apos]s first postseason win in 53 years… Completed 10 of 17 passes for 121 yards against Boston College… Also had 10 rushing attempts for 25 yards against Eagles… Shared QB duties in bowl with senior Chris Nickson… Displayed talent and composure when inserted during the second half of Wake Forest game after injuries to Nickson and Mackenzi Adams, hitting on 9-17 for 46 yards… Directed the Commodores[apos] only touchdown drive against the Deacs, connecting with Brandon Barden on 5-yard TD… Also rushed seven times for 23 yards.

2007
Did not see game action as a freshman… Impressed coaches as practice squad quarterback during fall… Named team[apos]s Offensive Scout of the Year after Miami (Ohio) win.

High School
Senior captain for state champion Lions… Three-year starter as dual-threat quarterback for powerful Alabama team… Directed first undefeated season in Prattville history, concluding 15-0 campaign with MVP performance in win over Hoover for 6A state title… Named Alabama[apos]s all-classification Mr. Football as senior… Picked as All-America QB by PrepNation, MaxPreps and EA Sports… Two-time All-State selection… Helped Prattville to 39-2 overall record from 2004-06, setting school career marks of 6,011 passing yards and 54 touchdown passes… As Prattville starter, Smith never lost a regular season game… As senior, threw of 2,465 yards, 21 TDs and two INTs, earning 6A Back of the Year honors… Also ran for 670 yards as a senior… All-area in basketball… An honors student and Beta Club member who was nominated for Wendy[apos]s High School Heisman.
