Warner Jones and Ryan Mullins Named NCBWA Pre-Season All-Americans
Jones Named to Second Team, while Mullins Selected to Third Team

Vanderbilt’s Warner Jones and Ryan Mullins have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America Teams today.

A committee of NCBWA officers and board members chose the 2005 teams after receiving over 300 nominees from 100-plus Division I programs.

Jones (Jr., 2B, Nashville, Tenn.) was selected to the second team, while Mullins (Jr. LHP, Nashville, Tenn.) was selected to the third team.

Jones is the returning leading hitter in the Southeastern Conference with a .414 average, 74 RBI and an NCAA leading 111 hits. He started all 64 games last season at second base and recorded 32 multi-hit and 20 mulit-RBI games. He reached base in 60 games and hit safely in 54 games. He set the Vanderbilt and SEC record with a 32-game hitting streak that spanned over two seasons.

Mullins led the Commdores with a 9-3 record and 2.58 ERA, 49th in the nation. He pitched 111.2 innings striking out 98 (34 looking) and walked only 20. Mullins did not allow more than two walks in any of his 17 starts and allowed two earned runs or fewer in 12 of his 17 starts. He pitched at least into the seventh inning in 11 of his 17 starts and became just the second Commodore pitcher to ever throw a complete game in the NCAA Tournament – a 11-1 victory over Princeton.
