Vanderbilt Baseball Ranked in Collegiate Baseball Pre-Season Poll at #38 12-22-04 The Vanderbilt Commodore baseball team is ranked 38th in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s Fabulous 40 pre-season poll released today. Preseason Poll The poll includes nine Southeastern Conference teams, including LSU (5th), South Carolina (8th), Georgia (9th), Mississippi (16th), Mississippi State (19th), Florida (22nd), Arkansas (33rd) and Tennessee (40th). The University of Texas is the top-ranked team, just one point ahead of Miami and two points ahead of defending national champion Cal State Fullerton. Baylor, a 2005 opponent for the Commodores, is ranked 25th. Last season, the Commodores owned a 17-17 record against teams ranked in the preseason Top 40 poll, including undefeated records vs. Georgia (4-0), Mississippi State (3-0) and Virginia (1-0). Junior second baseman Warner Jones and junior left hander Ryan Mullins were named to the Louisville Slugger’s Pre-Season All-America Team selected by Collegiate Baseball. Jones earned second team honors, while Mullins was named to the third team. Vanderbilt returns 20 letterwinners, including five position starters and 10 pitchers, from last seasons team that owned a school record 45 wins and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional.
