Daniel Valent defeated (2) Timo Stodder of Tennessee 6-1, 6-1 in the finals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships on Monday morning. Valent became the first Commodore to win the event since current assistant coach Ryan Lipman accomplished the feat in 2013.

Valent conceded the opening game of the first set to Stodder, but Valent was resilient and bounced back to rattle off six straight games to win the first set, 6-1. The momentum from the first set carried over into the second, with Valent taking the first four games and racing out to a 4-0 lead. Stodder would go on to take the fifth, but Valent came back and closed out the match with another 6-1 set victory.

Up next for Valent will be the ITA National Fall Championships, which will take place in Palm Springs, Calif. from Nov 1-5.

Despite the loss, Rowe and McPhee still have a chance at qualifying for the ITA National Fall Championships as an at-large bid. Of the 10 at-large doubles bids up for grabs, six will be made by the National Tournament Committee from the pool of regional finalists who submitted for consideration. The remaining four selections will be made by the National Tournament Committee from the remaining pool of regional finalists, All-American quarterfinalists and regional semifinalists.
