ITA Ohio Valley Regional Tournament Central
The ITA Ohio Valley Regionals began on Thursday and Vanderbilt impressed with a strong showing on day one of the tournament. The Commodores started off hot by sweeping round one of doubles play with a 3-0 record as a team. The pairs of Freeman/Harwell, Valent/Virtanen and Ross/Allwardt each defeated their opponents and will move on to the round of 32. Lachlan McPhee and Billy Rowe, who are the top-seeded pair in the tournament, will join them in the second round of doubles play after receiving a first-round bye. Vanderbilt is the only team in the Ohio Valley regional to send four doubles teams into the second round of the tournament.
The Commodores also had a handful of players advance individually in the singles draw. Daniel Valent, Panu Virtanen, George Harwell, Billy Rowe and Alex Ross are each heading to the round of 64.
Tomorrow’s action will begin at 7 a.m. (CT) once again with the second round of doubles, which will be followed by singles play at approximately 8:30 a.m. In total, Friday will feature one round of doubles, two rounds of singles and one round of consolation singles.
