Commodores welcome Auburn, Alabama

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team welcomes Auburn to town Friday and will host Alabama on Sunday at the Currey Tennis Center.

Friday’s match will mark the Dores third conference matchup after clinching a gritty, 4-3 match over Mississippi State on Sunday.

Junior Amanda Meyer secured the match for the Commodores with a comeback in the third set to win in the tiebreaker 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (5) and marked the Dores’ first SEC victory.

Vanderbilt is 1-1 in SEC play and 5-3 overall.

The Commodores check in at No. 17 in this week’s Oracle ITA rankings and feature two players in the top 125 singles. Senior Christina Rosca leads the Dores at No. 18 followed by sophomore Georgia Drummy moving up three spots to No. 28.

The pair also ranks in the top 60 doubles as a tandem at No. 22 in the nation.

Auburn comes to Nashville following a 4-3 loss to Florida. The Tigers are 7-5 and 0-2 in conference play.

In the last meeting between the two teams, Vanderbilt held the Tigers to one point to claim the match 4-1 in Auburn.

On Sunday, Vanderbilt will take on Alabama at the Currey Tennis Center. Alabama enters Sunday’s match with a 12-4 record and is 0-2 in SEC play.

The Commodores last faced the Tide in Alabama last season where they won 4-0.

Admission to this weekend’s matches is free. Parking is available in the 25th Ave. garage.
