NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Each week This Week on West End takes a closer look at what’s in store for the Commodores in the coming days.
The first week of May begins postseason action for three Vanderbilt programs: women’s tennis, men’s golf and lacrosse. The latter starts its AAC tournament run Thursday while the former two await to learn their NCAA Tournament destinations.
Vanderbilt baseball has another tough week ahead with a trip to Louisville and three-game series at home with Alabama.
Here’s more on all the other happenings around West End this week:
Women’s tennis
Vanderbilt women’s tennis team will learn its NCAA fate at 5 p.m. Monday during the NCAA Selection Show streamed live on NCAA.com.
The Commodores (13-9) are hoping to receive an at-large bid into the 64-team field. Tournament play begins Friday and Saturday leading up to the NCAA Championships on May 16-28 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Vandy, which went 5-8 against SEC competition, has been led this season by Marcella Cruz and Anessa Lee who each posted 16 wins in singles play. Lee and Christina Rosca recorded 12 wins in doubles play for head coach Aleke Tsoubanos.
Men’s golf
After winning the SEC Championships on St. Simons Island, Georgia, last month, Vanderbilt men’s golf will now learn where it will start its national title chase when NCAA Regional selections are unveiled at 1 p.m. Wednesday on the GOLF Channel.
The Commodores beat Tennessee, Alabama and Arkansas, respectively, in stroke play to capture their second league title since 2017. Head coach Scott Limbaugh and his student-athletes are likely to be one of the participating teams at the Kingston Springs Regional site starting May 17.
Lacrosse
Vanderbilt begins postseason play with a huge showdown against Temple at 6:15 p.m. CT live on ESPN+.
The semifinal matchup in the AAC Tournament will mark the third game in a row between the Commodores (12-5) and Owls (11-4). Vandy beat Temple 10-6 on April 25 in Nashville after falling 13-12 two days prior.
Maddie Souza leads the Dores into the postseason with 29 goals while Gabby Fornia has racked up 50 assists and 69 points for head coach Beth Hewitt. Goalie Paige Gunning has started all 17 games for Vanderbilt and sports a .475 save percentage.
The Vanderbilt-Temple winner faces Florida or Cincinnati at 11 a.m. CT Saturday for the championship.
Baseball
Vanderbilt is coming off a tough weekend in Florida where it dropped 2 of 3 to the Florida Gators. The Commodores now sit at 32-9 overall and are tied atop the SEC East with Tennessee at 14-7.
This week Vandy starts on the road with a trip up I-65 to rival Louisville for the Battle of the Barrel. The Cardinals (23-14) host Vanderbilt at 6 p.m. CT Tuesday live on ESPNU.
The Dores then return home for a three-game series this weekend starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Alabama (28-15, 11-10 SEC).
