Murfreesboro, Tenn. – Top-ranked Vanderbilt used five pitchers to shutout Middle Tennessee State 1-0 Tuesday night at Reese Smith Field in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Commodores scratched out the game’s lone run in the sixth inning when Anthony Gomez singled and reached second base on a passed ball before scoring on Mike Yastrzemski’s double to right field. Five Vanderbilt pitchers made that one run stand up over nine innings with freshman T.J. Pecoraro emerging with his sixth win of the year. Pecoraro tossed five innings allowing two hits and striking out four in the victory. Kevin Ziomek, Jack Armstrong, Corey Williams and Navery Moore all pitched one scoreless inning of relief to preserve the shutout. Moore notched his seventh save of the year working around a leadoff walk in the ninth inning.

Joe Loftus led the Commodores with two hits while Gomez extended his hitting streak to 29 games and Jason Esposito stretched his hitting streak to 15 games. The Blue Raiders were limited to just three hits on the night.

The Dores return to the road this weekend with a trip to No. 3 South Carolina starting Friday night. Friday and Saturday’s first pitches are scheduled for 6 p.m. CT with Sunday slated for at 12 p.m. CT. Saturday’s game will be televised on CSS and streamed on ESPN3.com and Sunday’s series finale airing on ESPN2.
