Gold Team Shuts Out Black Team, 13-0, To Sweep The Series 10-10-04 NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Six Commodore pitchers combined to give up five hits leading the Gold Team to a 13-0 shutout over the Black Team in the final game of the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Series, today at Hawkins Field. The Gold Team swept the series with 3-2 victory Friday and an 8-6 win Saturday. Stephen Shao earned the win going 3.0 innings giving up one hit and striking out three. Cameron Betourne picked up the loss giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits in four innings of play. “This game was poorly played on one side and the other (side) did a pretty good job of hitting,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Tim Corbin said. The Gold Team numbered 21 hits led by Tony Mansolino and Antoan Richardson with four each. Five other Gold teammates had multiple hits, including Rucker Taylor (2), Warner Jones (2), Ryan Davis (2), Mike Baxter (3) and Jonathan White (3) “Tony (Mansolino) had a great day with four hits and I think Jonathan White has improved each day. He’s (White) swinging the bat aggressively and I like that.” Mansolino was 4-5 with one run and three RBI. White went 3-4 at the plate with four runs and Jones collected four RBI with a 2-5 performance with one run. Richardson led off the game with a double to left center field and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor and scored when Jones grounded out to second base. “Antoan’s (Richardson) leadoff double to start the game was the story and the Gold Team just built on it from there.” The Gold Team scored two more runs in the third and one run in the fourth and fifth innings before scoring five runs in the sixth inning. They finished the game with one run in the eighth and two in the ninth. The Black Team collected five hits led by Brian Hernandez with two. Ryan Rote, Matt Buschmann, Cody Crowell, Ty Davis and Jensen Lewis were the Gold pitchers who combined for the shutout. The Black & Gold Series concludes Fall Practice.
