Aubrey Hull, Quinlan Hinerfeld claim backstroke races on opening day at Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Aubrey Hull and Quinlan Hinerfeld each won their event to pace Vanderbilt swimming Friday on the opening day of the House of ’Paign Invite hosted by Illinois at the ARC Pool.

Hinerfeld was victorious in the opening individual race of the meet—which also includes Indiana State—after finishing first in the 100 back, with Hull following by claiming the 100 back super final.

The meet will continue on Saturday, with the second day of action starting at 11 a.m.

Meet Highlights
-Hull was the lone Commodore to win a super final, which featured only the top swimmer from each program in the race.
-Hinerfeld’s victory came in an event that featured 12 competitors.
-Emily Constable added a second-place result in the 100 breast super final.

Notes
-It was the second time in three meets that Hull has claimed a win in the 100 back after touching the wall in 55.03.
-Hinerfeld’s 57.09 mark in the 100 back was nearly half a second faster than the runner-up in the race.
-Kate Heintz posted a season-best time of 57.93 in the 100 fly.
