Relays Send Dores Off to the Races

Vandy has pair of season-best times on opening day of SEC Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Vanderbilt swimming team began postseason action Tuesday with season-best performances from both relays that competed on the first day of the SEC Championships at the Rec Center Natatorium.

In the opening event of the meet for the Commodores, Gabriela Pierobon Mays, Faith Knelson, Natalie Van Noy and Chantal Jordan combined to record a mark of 1:40.57, which was just over a second off the program record in the relay.

In the final race of the night, Ellie Taliaferro, Ryen Bosuro, Eleanor Beers and Mercedes Traba combined to finish the 800 free relay in 7:26.71, which was nearly five seconds faster than Vandy’s previous best time in the event this season set at the Gamecock Invitational in November. The Dores placed 11th in the relay, and as a result were also in 11th in the team standings at the completion of the first day of the championships.

Competition on the second day of the SEC Championships will begin with prelims in three events at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
