Faith Knelson, Kailia Utley advance on second day of CSCAA National Invitational Championship

ELKHART, Ind. — Faith Knelson and Kailia Utley each made finals to lead Vanderbilt swimming Friday on the second day of the CSCAA National Invitational Championship held at the Beacon Health Aquatic Center.

The pair also contributed to a top-12 finish for the Commodores in the 200 medley relay as with 94 points through two days of competition Vandy is 20th among the 55 programs that have scored thus far.

Meet Highlights
-Knelson earned the second seed in the A Final of the 100 breast after posting a 1:01.24 mark in prelims before going on to record an eighth-place finish in the event.
-Utley touched the wall in the 100 fly in 54.61 in the morning to advance to the B Final of the event, where she would end up seventh in the race at the night session.
-Mercedes Traba was less than a second away from qualifying for finals in the 400 IM, placing 23rd overall after posting a time of 4:26.60.
-Ellie Taliaferro was the lone Commodore to compete in prelims of the 200 free.
-Three Dores—Gabriela Pierobon Mays, Utley and Megan Ciezczak—swam in 100 back prelims in the morning as well.
-Pierobon Mays, Knelson, Utley and Ciezczak posted a 1:41.95 mark in the 200 medley relay to come in 12th place in the event.

Notes
-It’s the second time in as many meets that Knelson has qualified for finals in both the 100 and 200 breast after also accomplishing the feat at the SEC Championships in February.
-Utley advanced to the finals in the 100 fly for the third time this season with her performance in the morning.
-Vanderbilt had a relay team score for the second night in a row after coming in 10th in the 400 medley relay on Thursday.

The final day of the National Invitational Championship will begin with preliminary heats Saturday at 8:30 a.m. CT.
