Commodores' Comeback Falls Short

Vandy falls to No. 17 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team fell short to No. 17 Alabama 4-3 on Sunday at the Alabama Tennis Center.

Alabama struck first in doubles play to claim the doubles point over the Commodores with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Adam Sraberg and Christiaan Worst were outlasted 6-1 followed by Dore duo George Harwell and Macsen Sisam falling 6-2.

In singles, Alabama advanced its lead to 3-0 over the Dores with wins at No. 4 and 5 in the line. Senior Panu Virtanen fell 6-4, 7-6 (4) followed by Sisam losing 6-4, 6-2.

Sophomore Marcus Ferreira put the Dores on the board with a straight-set win at No. 6. Ferreira won 6-4 in the first set followed by a 6-3 victory in the second to claim the match.

Harwell cut the Commodores’ deficit to 3-2 with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 comeback at No. 1.

The Tide clinched the match at No. 3 with junior Max Freeman falling in a gutsy 4-6, 7-6 (9), 6-1 battle. Both teams decided to play the match out with Billy Rowe concluded the match with a 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-4 win for the Commodores.

The Commodores return to action Sunday at home to host Arkansas and Lipscomb in a doubleheader.
