Men's golf incoming freshman Tyler Mawhinney moves on to the semifinal match at the 2026 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Vanderbilt men’s golf incoming freshman Tyler Mawhinney advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship on Friday morning after posting a 1-up victory in his quarterfinal match.

The incoming Commodore freshman tees off his semifinal match against Miles Russell Friday at 1:45 p.m. CT. The match airs live on The Golf Channel App and The Golf Channel website from 3-5 p.m. CT. Fans will need to login with their TV provider credentials for live access. The Golf Channel will re-air the championship from its main television outlet on Friday from 7-9 p.m. CT.

Mawhinney advanced to match play at the 2026 U.S Junior Amateur Championship after finishing tied for fifth in stroke play with a 36-hole score of 3-under 138. Coming into Wednesday’s Round of 64 as the No. 6 seed, Mawhinney collected a 2&1 win over Rawlin Sutter. He survived two rounds of match play on Thursday with an 8&7 victory against Nico Ward in the Round of 32, then posted a 2&1 win over Louis Klein in the Round of 16.

The Fleming Island, Florida, native is part of Vanderbilt’s incoming freshmen class that has been ranked No. 1 by multiple publications. He is the No. 2-ranked golfer in the Class of 2026, according to the AJGA. The three-time AJGA Rolex All-American helped Team USA win the 2025 Junior Ryder Cup and the 2024 Junior Presidents Cup. Mawhinney teamed up with current Vanderbilt freshman Will Hartman to win the 2025 USGA U.S. Amateur Four Ball title.

The newest Commodore won the 2024 Canadian Men’s Amateur to earn an exemption into the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, where he made the cut at the PGA TOUR event. Mawhinney was also the medalist at the 2023 Rolex Tournament of Champions and advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2024 U.S. Amateur Championship.
The Fleming Island, Florida, native attends Fleming Island High School, where he won the 2023 Florida Class 3A individual state championship. He was named the 2023 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Golf, which goes to the state’s top high school golfer.
