NASHVILLE — Astra Sharma authored a stellar career as a student-athlete at Vanderbilt. She helped the Commodores’ women’s tennis program win an NCAA championship and an SEC title while becoming SEC Player of the Year and an All-American on the court. In her final season in 2018, Sharma helped Vanderbilt win the SEC regular season and tournament titles and finish as the NCAA runner-up.
Last month, Sharma starred in her second stint in the Australian Open, qualifying for the singles portion for the first time in her career and reaching the mixed doubles final along with John Patrick Smith. Now back in Nashville, Sharma sat down with the Commodore Insider Podcast to recap her Aussie Open run, discuss her breakthrough in singles and her stretch in mixed doubles. Sharma also discussed how her time as a Vanderbilt student-athlete has prepared her for a professional career.
