Women's tennis hosts ITA Kick-Off

Jan. 23, 2015

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – ITA Kick-Off

The No. 12 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team begins dual play Saturday, as they host Texas, DePaul and Harvard for the ITA Kick-off weekend.

The top-seeded Commodores will face fourth-seed Harvard at 10 a.m., followed by No. 2 seed Texas against No. 3 DePaul at 2 p.m.
Over the course of the weekend, a total of 60 women’s tennis programs will take the court with a hope to lockup one of the 15 berths for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, in February, hosted by the University of Virginia.

The Commodores have won their ITA Kick-Off final twice in a row, with a 4-3 win in last year’s championship against Georgia Tech.

Kick-Off Roll Call
The Nashville regional features four teams all ranked in the Top-50 by the ITA. Vandy comes in as the top ranked team at No. 12, followed by Texas (No. 22), Harvard (No. 46) and DePaul (No. 50).

Dores Attend Miami Invite
Both the Commodores and Longhorns come off trips to last weekend’s Miami Spring Invite. No. 15 Sydney Campbell went undefeated on the weekend, bringing home two ranked wins over No. 7 Stephanie Wagner and No. 84 Breaunna Addison. Georgina Sellyn also went undefeated against Miami, Texas, and Utah with a ranked win over the Hurricanes’ No. 94 Lina Lileikite.

Fall Recap
Vanderbilt women’s tennis had a very productive fall, capturing solid wins all while gaining invaluable experience.
In what was the best regional showing out of any Commodore contingent, five student-athletes competed in regional singles quarterfinals, four in semifinals, and doubles team in regional finals.
Junior Courtney Colton and sophomore Sydney Campbell competed in the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, competing against the country’s most elite athletes.

Fresh Faces
Two new faces joined the Vandy tennis squad this season; with both freshman Payton Robinette and Southern Cal transfer Ellie Yates picking up several wins for the `Dores in tournament play.
