TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team concluded fall play at the Crimson Tide Invitational on Sunday. The Commodores closed out the tournament with four runner-up finishes.
Charlie Jones and Alex Zotov withdrew from the doubles crimson draw, while Alex DiValerio and Bryant Salcedo took second place in the doubles white draw. Jones and Zotov also placed second in their respective singles draws.
DiValerio and Salcedo dropped their match in the white draw, 8-5, to Notre Dame’s Johnson and Keeton. In the Namath singles draw, Zotov lost in three sets (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) to Alamaba’s Michael Thompson in the championship match. Jones retired after falling behind 2-0 in the third set against Mississippi State’s Vikram Reddy.
After falling in the first round of the Hannah draw, DiValerio came back and claimed the consolation title with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Jonathan Schroeder of Boston College.
The Commodores open the spring 2011 season in Palo Alto, Calif. at National Indoor Kickoff, Jan. 28-30.
