Commodore junior Falk ends run in quarterfinals

ATHENS, Ga. — Vanderbilt’s senior duo of Kelly Schmandt and Aleke Tsoubanos advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Muth and Wei of William & Mary Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The Commodore pair will face UCLA’s Bercek and Fisher on Friday for an opportunity to advance to their second national final of the 2003-04 season. That match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. CT.

Schmandt and Tsoubanos teamed up for the first time in the fall, winning the first of three ITA national tournaments — the ITA All-American Championships — in September.

Junior Audra Falk’s run in the NCAA Tournament ended Thursday with a 6-1, 6-3 loss to the defending NCAA Singles Champion, Amber Liu of Stanford. Falk ended the 2004 regular season ranked No. 13, and turned a trio of wins into an appearance in the tournament’s final eight.
