Recaps: Day One | Day Two | Day Three
COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Vanderbilt track and field team concluded the 2013 SEC Track and Field Championships by scoring in the heptathlon, 10,000 meters, steeplechase and 1,500 meters for a total of 16 team points.
The fourth and final day of action saw Kristen Findley score five points by earning a fourth place finish in the 1,500 meters.
1,500 meters
Findley entered the 1,500 meter finals with the fourth-best seed time and held that spot, finish the race in fourth and crossing the line in 4:17.98 to earn five points for Vanderbilt.
Freshman Lily Williams ran a collegiate best of 4:22.48, the top freshman time in the event.
5,000 meters
Four Vanderbilt runners completed the 5,000 meters, led by Kristen Smith finishing 15th in 16:52.06. It marked a season-best outing for the senior.
Hannah Jumper was the next Commodore across the line, finishing 25th in 17:14.81. Claire Benjamin was 38th in 17:34.87, while Vanessa Valentine was 42nd in 17:45.76.
Wrap-Up
The Commodores finished the meet with 16 team points. In addition to Findley’s five in the 1,500 meters, Jennifer Cannon scored two in the heptathlon, Liz Anderson scored four and Grace Orders scored one in the 10,000 meters, Rebecca Chandler scored two in the steeplechase and Brionne Williams scored two in the high jump.
The 16 points mark the most for a Vanderbilt squad at the SEC Outdoor Championships since 2005 (19 points).
Next up for Vanderbilt is the NCAA East Regional, which will be held May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C.
