NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt competed in a heavily contested field on the opening day of the Indoor Music City Challenge inside the David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center on Friday.
The meet commenced with Josephine Dal and Jessica Creedon in the long jump. The duo leapt into the final results with marks of 5.32m and 5.12m, respectively.
Grace Jensen broke her own record in the mile at 4:38.94, resetting the top time in school history, which is also a new personal record. Jensen’s time is now fifth in the Southeastern Conference and a top-30 time in the NCAA.
Joslin Blair (4:53.90), Cameron Fawcett (4:56.36), Ella Lambert (4:57.09) and Julia Rosenberg (4:58.81) also competed in the mile.
A trio of Commodores raced in the 600 meters for the first time this indoor season. Kaira Brown finished in the top five with a time of 1:33.27 for third overall. Creedon (1:41.50) and Dal (1:41.71) also raced in the event.
In the first heat of the 200 meters, Haley Bishop and Madison Fuller vied for position with other top runners from Cincinnati and Indiana. Bishop’s time of 23.85 positioned her in first place overall. Fuller reset her own personal record as well as the third spot in program history with a time of 24.11.
Ella Escobar was the final Commodore to compete on the night, racing in the final heat of the 200 meters. Escobar’s personal best of 25.15 placed her in the top-30 overall.
Day 2 of the Indoor Music City Challenge is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with the 3,000 meters.
