KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt completed its second of three fall tournaments this weekend in competing at the Tennessee Fall Invite against the likes of South Carolina, Georgia and the host Volunteers.
In all, Vanderbilt earned 11 victories across singles and doubles action.
Amanda Meyer led the way for the Commodores, sweeping her three singles matches. Through the three days, she defeated South Carolina’s Silvia Chinellato 7-6 (5), 6-1, Georgia’s Morgan Coppoc 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Tennessee’s Johanna Silva 6-3, 6-3.
“Amanda Meyer had an incredible weekend. She won all three singles against very, very good opponents and two out of her three doubles,” Vanderbilt head coach Aleke Tsoubanos said. “She was a tough competitor all weekend and we’re happy to see such a strong performance from her. Overall, I’m optimistic about where we are at this point. We’ve had good back-to-back weekends so we will try to rest bodies a bit and then put in a good week and half before we wrap up with one more weekend of play over Halloween.”
How’s that for a perfect weekend?

Vanderbilt had a strong open to the tournament against South Carolina with Meyer, Anessa Lee, Dasha Kourkina and Holly Staff all earning singles wins before the day transitioned to doubles against Georgia. On Saturday, the Dores took two more singles victories against a tough Georgia team with Lee joining Meyer in the win column with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Ania Hertel.
In doubles action, Vandy responded nicely with both Staff and Emma Kurtz and Meyer and Kourkina winning a pair of matches against Tennessee and South Carolina.
“We started out with a strong singles performance on Friday morning with South Carolina and we fought really hard to give ourselves lots of chances, even in the matches that didn’t go our way,” Tsoubanos said. “Doubles on Friday was a disappointment but the team came out and played much more committed and improved doubles on Saturday afternoon.
“We had some really good singles matches with Georgia on Saturday where Amanda and Anessa picked up great wins and Emma’s match was really fun to watch; the level of play was awesome and I’m proud of the way she competed. She is showing growth and great leadership this fall.”
Vanderbilt will finish out its scheduled fall slate in two weeks when it hosts the June Stewart Invitational at Currey Tennis Center over Halloween weekend from Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
