2004 Cross Country: Coming off solid outdoor track campus, Wetzel opened season with runner-up finish at Belmont Invitational… Her 14:29.71 effort was just five seconds off the winning pace…
2003 Cross Country: Ran first or second among Vanderbilt competitors in every meet, posting one of the best freshman campaigns ever by a Commodore cross country athlete… Her performance at NCAA Regionals – 17th overall in 21:32 – is the sixth best showing ever by a Commodore at meet… Was a key to team[apos]s overall success, which included three meet victories and fifth place showings at the SEC and NCAA Regional meets… Started campaign as Commodores[apos] top runner, finishing second overall at Belmont Invitational (11:00 for two miles), then paced the Vanderbilt victory at Commodore Classic with another second overall finish in 19:03… Arguably ran one of her best races during 18:34 (5K) PR at Bulldog Invitational that resulted in fourth place finish, then came back two weeks later to lower her PR to 17:54 with 13th place overall effort at prestigious Notre Dame Invitational… Ran excellent 6K race at Chile Pepper Invitational (21:40) prior to 15th overall effort at SEC Championships (22:50)… SEC finish was the ninth best ever by a Commodore.
In High School: Three-time Most Valuable Athlete in track… Earned All-State honors as senior, All-Region three of four varsity years and All-District all four years… Track squad finished second in state in 2001, and won district crown in 2002… Set school records of 4:54.2 (1600) and 11:03 (3200)… Won five individual state medals in track, including mile as senior… Finished third at indoor state mile and fifth in mile at Penn Relays as senior… Won seven district titles as prep… PR in 800 meters of 2:13… Co-captain of field hockey and basketball squads as senior… Named MVP of field hockey squad as senior… Earned school[apos]s Outstanding Female Athlete Award.
Personal: Ashleigh Washington Wetzel…Daughter of Gregg and Debby Wetzel… Middle of three siblings… Older brother, Eric, is a baseball player at Elizabethtown (PA) College… Younger sister, Abby, also is a standout runner in Lewisburg.. Dad is an elementary school principal; mom is a teacher… Summer jobs included role as ice cream server… Graduated with honors… Four-year member of Lewisburg Student Council… Member of National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society… Two-time class secretary.
