Ross Doubles Up For Dores

Junior wins both singles and doubles matches Sunday to conclude Black & Gold Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis collected three victories over Middle Tennessee to conclude play Sunday at home in the Black & Gold Invitational.

Junior Michael Ross had a two-win day, taking his singles match in straight sets and then teaming up with Joubert Klopper for a doubles victory. Juan Lopez added the third win for the Dores in a straight-sets singles triumph.

“What this team showed us as a staff today is that when it comes together, goes about its business and competes the right way as a unit from top to bottom—whether they are playing a match on the court or are on the sidelines rooting their teammates on—we have a good chance against anybody in the spring,” head coach Scott Brown said. “We still have a lot to improve on, but what I was most pleased with is how we ended the tournament on the right note and got it right at the end. That’s what I’m proudest of and what we need to take as positive momentum moving forward into this week of training and onward. That’s how Vanderbilt men’s tennis looks on the court when they play a dual match.

“I want to thank the members of our staff who helped run the tournament—Madison Pinnell, Geoff Hernandez, Courtney Colton and Daniel Cadavid—they did a phenomenal making it a world-class event. I’d like to also thank all the fans who came out and supported the team throughout the weekend.“

Up next for Vandy, Jeremie Casabon and Nathan Cox—the ITA regional doubles champions—head to the ITA National Fall Championship in San Diego Wednesday-Sunday, while the Commodores host Alumni Weekend beginning Friday to conclude the fall season.
