Rewriting the Record Books

Haley Bishop shines in 200 meters

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt returned to the David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center and began Day 1 of the Vanderbilt Invitational in true Vandy fashion. Several Commodores etched their names in the program record book Friday.

“We had a great start in just our second meet,” said head coach Althea Thomas.

The meet started with the events of the pentathlon in which Jessica Creedon finished in the top five overall. Her 3,555 points in the event were enough to place her sixth in the Vanderbilt record books and earn her a silver finish overall on the day. Creedon solidified her second-place victory in the event after a come-from-behind victory in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.56.

“Seeing Jess compete for five events against a former NCAA All-American was phenomenal. She had fun competing in the pentathlon, made great adjustments, and an exciting clearance in the high jump. Jess not only maintained that energy throughout her remaining events but set the atmosphere for the meet.”

Haley Bishop not only added another program record to her pedigree but also a personal best in the 200 meters. Bishop’s eclipsing mark of 23.53 took first place in the event. Joining her in the top five was Madison Fuller at 24.28, a bronze finish. Additionally, Kaira Brown (25.62) and Jordan Smith (25.91) also competed in the 200 meters for Vanderbilt.

“The 200 showed that Haley continues to get better each week,” said coach Thomas. “She set her third school record and gave an electric performance. Madison had an equally impressive race, with an indoor personal best and setting herself up for the opportunity to continue to improve through the season.”

A quartet of Commodores raced in the 1,000 meters with freshman Julia Rosenberg leading the way finishing seventh overall at 2:56.23. She was followed by Ella Lambert (2:56.63), Cameron Fawcett (3:00.31) and Nicole Anderson (3:09.60).

“Lastly, in the 1,000 meters we had several freshmen run extremely well. We were all proud of them for making their indoor track debuts after transition from cross country and they all ran a very competitive race.”
