NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 3 Vanderbilt Commodores were picked as favorites in the SEC East while three Commodores were recognized on the coaches’ preseason all-conference team, the league office announced Thursday.
The Vandy trio of sophomore Enrique Bradfield Jr., senior Dominic Keegan and junior Nick Maldonado each received first-team honors and the Commodores tied LSU for the most first-team selections.
Vanderbilt garnered 87 total points, good for most in the conference, while receiving nine first-place votes for the Eastern Division. Ole Miss was picked as the conference’s preseason favorite, notching a league-best four votes to win the SEC championship.
Points were compiled on a descending basis for each division. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team, and each coach also voted for one team as an overall conference champion. For the seventh consecutive year, two preseason all-SEC teams were selected by league head coaches.
Vanderbilt opens the season at home with a three-game series against seventh-ranked Oklahoma State starting Feb at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 18.
