WEST POINT, Miss. – Vanderbilt women’s golf shook off a sluggish second round start to post an 8-over-par 292 on Tuesday. The Commodores held their ground on the team leaderboard in ninth at Old Waverly Golf Club.

Vandy opened the morning 12-over through the first six holes as a team, from there the Dores fought back to go 4-under the rest of the way.

Ava Merrill finished the round at even par, posting four birdies around the turn to recover from an early double-bogey on the sixth. Olivia Wood clawed back from three early bogeys to come home at 1-over 73. Angelina Tolentino carded a 75 along with Commodore individual Eliabeth Rudisill.  Sara Im and Claire Henson each finished at 4-over par.

“I thought the girls showed a tremendous amount of fight starting around the seventh hole,” said head coach Greg Allen. “It would have been real easy to throw in the towel after that start but that’s not who they are, and for that, I’m very proud of them. Tomorrow is another opportunity to go out and find a way to be great and see what we can do.”

Oklahoma State leads The Ally at 5-under through 36 holes after producing the only round below par on the day. Vanderbilt sits three strokes behind Augusta in eighth and nine shots back of sixth-place TCU.

The Commodores will tee off at 7:50 a.m. in Wednesday’s final round alongside Virginia Tech and Augusta.
