FAIRFIELD, Texas – Vanderbilt women’s golf sits tied for sixth through 36 holes following a 13-over second round at The Fin at Freestone Lake & Golf Club on Tuesday. Senior Ava Merrill is tied for second individually heading into Wednesday’s final round at 3-under-par.
Merrill posted an even-par 72 on Tuesday, carding four birdies in the round. Elizabeth Rudisill, playing as an individual at The Fin, carded the Dores’ second-best round of the day with a 2-over 74. The sophomore is tied for 11th individually at 3-over through 36 holes.
“I feel as if we played better than we scored,” head coach Greg Allen said. “This is a golf course where you have to pick good targets off the tee and into greens. We missed some of our shots in the wrong spots and it cost us some big numbers. Overall, we saw a lot of signs of improvements. We did a much better job of controlling our emotions and being patient.”
Angelina Tolentino carded a 3-over 75 on Tuesday. She sits alongside Rudisill in a tie for 11th on the individual leaderboard with 18 holes to play. Claire Henson finished the second round 4-over while Sara Im and Olivia Wood each came home at 6-over.
Vanderbilt is tied for sixth but just two strokes outside the top five. Wednesday’s final round of The Fin is set for a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday. Live scoring for The Fin is available on Scoreboard by Clippd.
