NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 3/2 Vanderbilt soccer led for nearly 88 minutes on Thursday night, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Tennessee Tech in front of a season-high crowd of 940.
The Commodores (6-0) scored three times in the opening quarter-hour and never looked back, posting their most goals since opening night of 2025 against Austin Peay. Melania Fullerton and Sydney Watts both scored within five minutes, and after Lydia Ungashick added a third in the 15th minute, Vicky Pugh and Megan Hinnenkamp each found the scoresheet to take a 5-0 lead into the break.
Defender Margo Matula scored her first collegiate brace with two goals within seven minutes of each other in the second half. Freshman Lena Tusche didn’t score but was arguably the star performer, as her three assists tie Reagan Pentz for most ever by a Vanderbilt freshman and just the second three-assist performance since 2019.
Olivia Stafford added two assists down the right wing, and Pentz, Ungashick, Hinnenkamp, Alexis Smith and Lawson Hopkins were also credited with assists. Tennessee Tech (2-2-2) was held to just one shot, forcing a save from Layla Armas who relieved Alexa Gianoplus at halftime.
It’s a quick turnaround for the Dores, who will host Xavier on Sunday night at 6 p.m. in the nonconference finale.
