FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 10-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team tied for fifth at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab, while sophomore Jon Ed Steed paced the Commodores at Colonial Country Club with an eighth-place finish.
The Dores leave the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational with a three-round score of 14-over 854, as Vandy tied for fifth with No. 8 Texas. After being the only team to card under par in the first two rounds, Vanderbilt had to battle crosswinds on Tuesday, as the Dores carded 16-over 296 in Round 3. No school in the 16-team field carded under par in the final round.
“It was a great test of golf out there today with high swirling winds,” said Scott Limbaugh, the Thomas F. Roush, M.D., and Family Vanderbilt Men’s Golf Head Coach. “Our guys came out ready to play from the start and did a great job on the front nine. I told the guys we played 45 good holes this week, which was a step in the right direction, but we didn’t finish to our standard, which was disappointing. The guys are down, and I understand it, but we showed a lot this week against a great field on a tough course. We have to keep learning how to stay focused, committed, and do the little things at an elite level because we are still having lapses in concentration. Those are things that can be corrected, but you have to take ownership of it.”
Steed collected his first top-10 finish of the 2026-27 campaign, as the sophomore carded even par 210 to place eighth. The Enterprise, Alabama, native held round scores of 68-68-74, while his 12 birdies were the second-most by any golfer in the field. It is Steed’s highest finish since he claimed seventh at the 2026 NCAA Athens Regional. Overall, it is his fourth career top-10 finish.
Sophomore Will Hartman tied for 22nd, as he placed inside the top 25 for the eighth time over his last nine tournaments dating back to last season. The All-American finished the Ben Hogan Collegiate with a score of 5-over 215.
Vanderbilt’s freshman duo of Tyler Mawhinney and Luke Colton tied for 38th, carding 8-over 218. Sophomore Michael Riebe scored a team-low 3-over 73 in Round 3, as he concluded the tournament in a tie for 51st.
No. 11 Alabama captured the team title at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational after the Crimson Tide carded an even-par 840. Texas Tech’s Adam Bresnu claimed medalist honors with a three-round score of 7-under 293.
The Commodores conclude the 2026 fall season at The Williams Cup presented by STITCH Golf at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Oct. 18-20.
“This is a great opportunity to learn, grow, and get better because you have to earn toughness as a group,” stated Limbaugh. “You do that by working through hard things and loving the journey. I’m so excited about this team, and we are excited to finish the fall season the right way in a couple of weeks.”
