TULSA, Okla. — Senior Hugo Coquelin kept the momentum going at the ITA All-American Championships hosted by Tulsa, picking up two wins on Sunday to advance into the singles qualifying draw.
The opening match pinned Coquelin up against Mason Landreth of Ole Miss. And after Landreth jumped out to an early lead, it was all Coquelin the rest of the way. The Commodore surged to a 7-5, 6-2 victory to move within one match of a berth into the next round.
Coquelin then faced Texas A&M's Kriish Tyagi, with both players coming into the contest following two straight-set wins in a row. It was the tightest matchup of the tournament so far for Coquelin, but the result ended up the same. Coquelin secured a 7-5, 7-5 win over Tyagi, clinching a spot in qualifying play.
The ITA All-American Championships continue from Tulsa tomorrow. Coquelin will be joined by Hoyoung Roh, who opens his tournament run in the qualifying draw. STARKVILLE, Miss. — The final day of the Starkvegas Showdown hosted by Mississippi State ended with three victories for Vanderbilt men's tennis over Auburn opponents on Sunday.
Sophomore Donghyun Hwang stayed in the win column, notching his fourth straight singles win with a 6-0, 6-3 takedown of the Tigers' Alvaro Jimenez. Senior Danil Panarin added another singles point for the Dores after cruising past Patrik Munkhammar 6-0, 6-2.
The third win of the day for Vandy came in doubles play, in which both teams split the two matches. Freshman Roshan Santhosh and sophomore Jack Satterfield produced their second straight victory in doubles, 6-3, 7-5, against Jimenez and Jake Kennedy.
