NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men's tennis team is set to open its 2026 fall season tomorrow in the Starkvegas Showdown at Mississippi State, with players also set to compete at the Davis Cup and the ITA All-American Championships over the weekend.
The Dores are sending four to Starkville: senior Danil Panarin, sophomores Donghyun Hwang and Jack Satterfield, and freshman Roshan Santhosh. A total of four SEC schools will be competing at the event including Vanderbilt; Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State round out the competition. The Commodores are set to open Friday against the Crimson Tide, who Vanderbilt knocked off twice in a row, once on Senior Day and another to open the SEC Tournament, in dual match play last season.
Freshman Leonardo Ljubicic will also hit the court tomorrow, although not in black and gold. The Monaco native will be competing for his country in the Davis Cup from Finland, with Monaco facing the host nation Friday and Saturday in the first of five group stages. More information on the Davis Cup can be found online.
From there, Vandy will be represented at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma by senior Hugo Coquelin, junior Pablo Martinez Gomez and sophomore Hoyoung Roh. Coquelin will kick things off for the Dores as the lone member of the team beginning in the prequalifying draw; he is set to face UCLA's Nav Dayal at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Martinez Gomez leads the Dores in the ITA preseason singles rankings at No. 48, followed by Roh at No. 65. Together, the pair make up the No. 30 ranked duo; they are set to play doubles starting in the qualifying draw on Monday. Roh will also begin his singles journey in qualifying. Martinez Gomez opens singles play from the main draw, which starts Sept. 23. The finals for both singles and doubles take place on Sept. 27.
