NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt track and field associate head coach Ashley Kovacs has been named an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The World Outdoor Championships are set for July 15-29, the first to be held on U.S. soil.
Joining Kovacs on the USATF women’s coaching staff is LaTanya Sheffield (Long Beach State), Angela Williams (Prairie View A&M), Laura Bowerman (New Mexico), Petros Kyprianou (Episcopal School of Jacksonville/University of Georgia) and Kim Keenan-Kirkpatrick (Colgate).
Kovacs is entering her second season as the associate head coach of Vanderbilt track and field, overseeing the throwing events. She is one of the nation’s most highly-respected throws coaches with honors including being named USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year in 2014, Regional Coach of the Year in 2019 and Outdoor Coach of the Year for the Great Lakes region.
During her coaching career, Kovacs has mentored a world champion, three NCAA champions, 18 All-Americans, 24 conference champions, 32 individuals who advanced to the NCAA Championships, three regional Athlete-of-the-Year honorees, eight top-three finishers at NCAAs and 10 conference championship teams.
