NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt will look to win their third consecutive tournament starting this Sunday at the Linger Longer Invitational in Eatonton, Georgia.
The Commodores won the Cabo Collegiate on March 1 after shooting an impeccable 32-under-par over 54 holes. On Feb. 23, Vandy claimed The Prestige by beating Oregon by 10 strokes.
Vanderbilt plans to build off that success this week.
“This is another new event for us and another opportunity for us to grow and take another step toward being the team we know we can be,” Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh said. “We need to take the same competitive character we showed in our first two tournaments (this year) and see if we can continue to create the right habits. It’s important to continue to see different guys step up, take ownership of their actions, and play with grit.”
Harrison Ott, Jackson Van Paris, Cole Sherwood, Reid Davenport and Gordon Sargent will represent the Commodores this week while William Moll will compete as an individual.
The Commodores will be competing on the par 72 Great Waters Golf Course (7,436 yards) against Alabama, Augusta, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Mercer, North Carolina, North Carolina Greensboro, South Florida, Toledo, Virginia and host Kennesaw State.
Vandy is scheduled to begin its opening round at 8:15 a.m. CT Sunday and will be paired with North Carolina Greensboro and Florida.
“I think the challenge is about our guys being mentally tough enough to focus and think about the right things,” Limbaugh said. “We started the spring wanting to prove something now, after a little success, we need to have that same mindset and that’s not easy to do.
“It’s easier to kind of let go and think you got it figured out. However, that is not what successful teams and great competitors do. So that’s the opportunity we have this week to send a message about our leadership and maturity.”
