NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt track and field team is set to commence the outdoor portion of the 2022 season this week at the Black & Gold Invite.
“We are excited for our first outdoor meet and to begin the third season of this academic year,” said Althea Thomas, director of cross country and track and field. “We are taking the next seven weeks to prepare for the next championship season which begins in May.”
The University of Central Florida is set to host the two-day meet on Friday and Saturday. Vanderbilt will compete against Alabama State, Albany, Bethune-Cookman, Connecticut, Dartmouth, Embry-Riddle, Flagler, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Memorial, Florida Tech, Kentucky, Marshall, Mercer, Michigan, Minnesota, NC State, North Florida, NYU, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Saint Leo, Southeastern U., Stetson, Tampa, Temple, UMass Amherst, University of The Bahamas, VCU, and host UCF.
The Commodores will be represented by Nicole Anderson, Haley Bishop, Joslin Blair, Kaira Brown, Gigi Clifford, Jessica Creedon, Emma Curry, Cameron Fawcett, Madison Fuller, Jacqueline Pinon, Julia Rosenberg, Taiya Shelby, Jordan Smith, and Haley Walker on the track down in Orlando, Florida at the UCF Track and Field / Soccer Complex. Friday’s action will begin for Vanderbilt at 4:30 CT / 5:30 p.m. ET with the 400 meter hurdles with Saturday’s start coming at 11 a.m. / noon ET in the 4×100 meter relay.
Vandy recently concluded an outstanding indoor season under the direction of coach Thomas and the new staff. From shattering 26-year-old records, a silver medalist at the SEC Indoor Championships, to a pair of All-Americans, the Commodores have set themselves up for a great season outside.
