NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s final event of the regular season begins Monday when the Commodores take part in The Country Club of Birmingham Invitational.
“First of all, we are so fortunate to be able to go play at a course like The Country Club of Birmingham and we are so thankful that they stepped up to help us out on such short notice,” Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh said. “As most people may know, Shoal Creek was scheduled to host this event, but the tornadoes last week really hit them hard and they were unable to host.
“These are both world class courses and we are so appreciative to be welcomed in to play them. Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with those affected by the storms.”
This week’s event will take place over three days and 54 holes. Vandy will be looking for a fourth straight top-five finish and its first win of the spring season.
William Moll, Matthew Riedel, Reid Davenport, Harrison Ott and Michael Shears will be focused on playing some of their best golf of the spring to create some momentum going into the postseason. Cole Sherwood will compete as an individual.
“As a team, this is our final stop before championship season and our focus is to make sure we are doing all our little things at a high standard,” Limbaugh said. “Ultimately, what you focus on is what you get and we have got to focus on doing some things a little bit better. I know that doubt, hesitation and fear of failure are part of every single day and how you overcome those things ultimately will decide the type of competitor you will be.”
Vandy will join Alabama, Arkansas, Charlotte, Clemson, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, North Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee UAB, Virginia and host Auburn in the tournament. Teams will compete on the par-71, 7,000-yard west course.
Vanderbilt is scheduled to tee off at 7:30 a.m. Monday and live scoring can be found HERE.
“We had a good week at home preparing and now we have a great opportunity to go finish the regular season the right way,” Limbaugh said. “We have to continue to get everyone wanting to step up and contribute to the team results.”
