NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Each week This Week on West End takes a closer look at what’s in store for the Commodores in the coming days.
The Vanderbilt football team will embark on its final road trip of the season when it heads to No. 11 Georgia for a 3 p.m. CT game Saturday in Athens, Georgia. Vandy made global headlines over the weekend when senior student-athlete Sarah Fuller took the opening kickoff of the third quarter for the Commodores in a game against Missouri.
On the hardwood, the Vanderbilt men’s basketball team opened its season with a win and looks ahead to its next challenge while the women’s basketball team is scheduled to make its debut Wednesday.

Football
Vanderbilt will be under the direction of interim head coach Todd Fitch for the remainder of the season after the University announced Sunday it had parted ways with former Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason.
Fitch will have a tall order in front of him as he looks to lead the Commodores into Athens, Georgia, to face No. 11 Georgia. The Bulldogs (6-2, 6-2 SEC) have won back-to-back games after losing to Florida on Nov. 7.
Vandy (0-8, 0-8 SEC) will be trying to rebound from a 41-0 loss at Missouri on Saturday.
Women’s basketball
The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team will make its long-awaited debut at 7 p.m. Wednesday when it welcomes Texas Tech to Memorial Gymnasium.
Head coach Stephanie White’s team had its two previous contests this season canceled. Wednesday’s matchup will give fans a first look at the 2020-21 team which includes a large group of returning players and scoring star Koi Love.
Texas Tech comes to town with wins over Texas Rio Grande Valley and Houston Baptist. Wednesday’s contests marks the first road trip of the season for the Red Raiders and is part of the SEC/Big XII Challenge.
Men’s basketball
Basketball activities have been put on hold for the men’s team this week. The Commodores had been scheduled to travel to Connecticut to take part in the Roman Legends Classic against UConn and then either BYU or USC.
Vandy (1-0) is coming off a 77-71 win over Valparaiso on Friday. Sophomore point guard Scotty Pippen scored a career-high 25 points in that effort.
Vanderbilt’s next contest is scheduled for Dec. 8 at SMU.
