The latest buzz on the web surrounding the Vanderbilt Commodores:

VUCommodores.com: Vanderbilt Athletics has announced a partnership with Nashville-area public school Buena Vista Elementary. Commodore student-athletes and staffers will participate in several volunteering opportunities in the coming weeks, including a donation drive taking place this week during Vanderbilt baseball’s seres with Ole Miss.

VUCommodores.com: On Wednesday, the Tennessee General Assembly unanimously passed a joint resolution honoring the memory of Vanderbilt alumnus Perry Wallace on April 11. Wallace, who grew up in North Nashville, integrated Vanderbilt varsity basketball in 1966 and made history on Dec. 2, 1967, as the first African American basketball player to compete in a varsity game in the Southeastern Conference.

VUCommodores.com: The Vanderbilt women’s golf squad captured their first team victory of the year in resounding fashion, winning by a double-digit margin to take the Brickyard Collegiate Tuesday in Georgia. Commodore freshman Morgan Baxendale matched the team accomplishment by claiming medalist honors as the low individual in the 78-player field. Later, Baxendale claimed SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

National Football Foundation: Four upperclassmen on the 2017 Commodore football team – Tommy Openshaw, Caleb Scott, Scott Sypniewski and Ryan Whitehave been named Hampshire Honor Society recipients by the National Football Foundation (NFF).

Ben Hogan Award: Vanderbilt senior Theo Humphrey was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award on Tuesday, an honor bestowed on the top men’s college golfer, regardless of level. Humphrey is Vanderbilt’s third Hogan Award semifinalist since 2015, joining Hunter Stewart(2015) and Matthias Schwab (2017).

On The Tee Podcast: Vanderbilt women’s golf alum Marina Alex joined “On The Tee Podcast” to discuss spending her off week at Augusta National for The Masters, among other topics.

Vanderbilt Hustler: Vanderbilt alum and current Fox Sports host Skip Bayless will speak at Vanderbilt on Friday, April 20. Bayless is a former Hustler sports editor and Grantland Rice Scholarship winner.
