VUCommodores.com: Last Sunday, Vanderbilt Athletics sponsored a day trip to Memphis in recognition of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. The group of Commodore student-athletes, staffers and faculty took in a guided tour of the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel, the site of Dr. King’s assassination 50 years ago this coming April. The group ate lunch at Central BBQ – a Memphis staple – before capping the day with a tour of the STAX Museum of American Soul Music.

VUCommodores.com: On Tuesday, Vanderbilt tennis senior Astra Sharma became the first women’s tennis student-athlete to compete in a Grand Slam since the legendary Julie Ditty. Living out a personal dream, Sharma, the reigning SEC Player of the Year, made her Australian Open and Grand Slam debut in the first round of women’s doubles
D1Baseball.com: Vanderbilt baseball landed at No. 14 in D1Baseball’s preseason top 25. Vandy is among eight Southeastern Conference programs in the polls, the most of any league. The squad returns 19 lettermen and five positional starters to a team that captured its fourth NCAA Regional title in five seasons a year ago.

VUCommodores.com: Vanderbilt basketball signees Darius Garland and Simisola Shittu were named to the McDonald’s All-American Team on Tuesday, becoming the first two Commodore selections to be named to the team. Garland, from Brentwood, Tenn., will participate on the East team in Atlanta on March 28 at Phillips Arena, while Shittu, from Burlington, Ontario, Canada, will play for the West team.
NCAA.com: The NCAA recognized Vandy Bowling’s Maria Bulanova as one of five bowlers to watch on a national level in 2018. The sophomore from Moscow, Russia was a First-Team All-America selection and National Rookie of the Year last season.
