Track finishes first day of Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt track team hosted the first day of the Vanderbilt Invitational with strong finishes from Commodore vets junior Rita Jorgensen and sophomore Anna Carr.

Jorgensen narrowly missed beating former ETSU record-holder and three-time national qualifier Heidi Dahl with a personal best time of 4:22.77, good for 3rd all-time in the Vanderbilt record books. Jorgensen’s fellow teammates Alexa Rogers (4:34.95–5th), Louise Hannallah (4:36.78–6th), and Kristen Findley (4:37.37–7th) also placed in the top ten for the `Dores.

“We had a great race from Rita this evening,” distances coach Steve Keith noted. “That’s a strong PR for her and we’re hoping for a big day from her tomorrow as well. That will prove that she’s ready to run strong at SEC Outdoors.”

Carr finished third in the 200 meter dash with a personal best of 24.18, good for 2nd all-time in the Vanderbilt record books. Fellow `Dores junior Taylor Jackson and sophomore Teegan Hill each finished with a time of 24.65, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.

“Anna had a great 200 and we’re really looking forward to great races tomorrow from all of our runners,” Vanderbilt head coach D’Andre Hill commented.

For the field events, Buky Bamigboye came up big for the Commodores with two top-ten finishes in the long jump and the javelin. The Nashville native jumped 17-09.75 in the long jump, good for eighth place. Bamigboye then finished fourth in the javelin, throwing 112-09.

The second day of the Vanderbilt Invitational begins with the women’s and men’s hammer at 10:00, followed by the remainder of the field events. The running events begin at noon with the women’s 4×100 relay.
