Rebecca Chandler, a junior cross country runner from Jacksonville, has pretty old school and eclectic taste for someone born well into the ’90s.

1. 9th Wonder (Blackitolism) by Digable Planets
“Anyone who has ever run cross country knows that the hours leading up to a race are filled with uncontrollable nerves and adrenaline. In order for me to have a good race, I have to channel all that energy into a calm, focused confidence, and nothing does that for me more than an awesome early nineties rap jam. This particular track from Digable Planet’s ’94 album has a mellowed out lyric style and awesome funk bass line that I like to keep in my head as I walk up to the starting line.”

2. Pete Rock’s The Creator
“Speaking of bass lines, Pete Rock has been an integral part of composing the back tracks of some of the biggest rap albums ever, from Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die to Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Even though he’s been infusing funk and jazz into rap since before I was born, it feels like his bass drum driven tracks were made specifically to wake me up and get me in the zone during the walk to morning practice.”

Party in Becca’s dorm!
