Commodores host Black and Gold Invitational this weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For the first time this outdoor season, the Vanderbilt track and field team will compete on its home turf. The Commodores are set to host the annual Black and Gold Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

No spectators will be allowed at the two-day meet which begins Friday at 4 p.m. with the hammer. The first track event is the 200 meters at 5 p.m., and Friday will conclude with the men’s 5,000 meters at 7:20 p.m. The second day will start at 10 a.m. with the discus, followed by the start of the track events at noon. The Commodores will wrap up their hosting duties with the 4×400 relay at 3:30 p.m.

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 outdoor season, this will be the first time the Commodores host an outdoor meet in two years. In 2019, the Commodores set 18 personal records at their home meet.

So far this season, the Commodore women boast four school records and a total of 22 top-10 performances. Most recently, sophomore Madison Fuller took more time off her school record in the 100 meters as the Commodores won three events and posted seven top-10 times at the Miami Invite and Tennessee Relays last weekend.

Vanderbilt has four performances which rank among the top 50 in the nation after the first month of competition and currently have 11 individual performances among the top 48 who would qualify for the NCAA East Regionals.

Vanderbilt’s next scheduled meet is the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida, on April 29-30.
