Vanderbilt on the Road to Oklahoma

Norman, Okla. – Vanderbilt men’s tennis heads to Oklahoma to compete in the ITA Kick-off weekend taking on No. 18-ranked Notre Dame Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
 
Oklahoma hosts their seventh consecutive ITA Kick-off tournament welcoming Drake, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame to the Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion.
 
The Commodores face a 1-0 top-25 ranked Notre Dame after the Irish defeated SEC opponent Kentucky; 5-2 in their 2019 season opener.
 
The Dores jump started their 2019 season hosting Northwestern and Tennessee State competing in a doubleheader where the Dores won both matches, 7-0, 5-2 respectively earning the Commodores a 2-0 start to the season. 
 
Vanderbilt features two ranked doubles duos along with one singles star, No. 62-ranked Billy Rowe. Rowe paired with senior Cameron Klinger earned a No. 47 doubles ranking and paired with fellow junior Panu Virtanen, Rowe earns a spot at No. 50 in the Oracle ITA doubles preseason rankings.
 
Vanderbilt is currently 2-2 against the Fighting Irish with their last victory against the Irish securing the Dores a spot in the second round of the 2015 NCAA tournament where the Dores won, 4-1.
 
The winner of Saturday’s matchup will advance to the ITA Kick-off championship match Sunday with hopes of locking down a spot in the 2019 ITA National Team Indoors set to take place in Chicago, Illinois on February 15.
