Men's Tennis Hosts Initial Tournament of Spring Season

NASHVILLE- The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team will compete in their first tournament of the 2019 season hosting Belmont University and the University of North Carolina in the Commodore Classic.

Fresh off of a strong fall season, the Commodores will enter the spring season with two nationally ranked singles players and two ranked doubles pairs.

Junior Billy Rowe represents the Dores as the 62nd-ranked Division 1 player in singles play as well as the 47th-ranked doubles duo with senior Cameron Klinger. Paired with junior Panu Virtanan, Rowe is also ranked 49th in doubles.

This weekend the Dores will feature two new freshmen; Christiaan Worst from South Africa and Macsen Sisam from Auckland, New Zealand. The two will take the court for the first time as Commodores this Friday.

The Commodore Classic will pose strong competition for the Dores with the University of North Carolina earning a No. 6 team ranking to start the 2019 season along with two players earning singles rankings in the Top 100. This will be the second time the Commodores will battle against Belmont this season, previously facing off against the Bruins in the Dores first tournament of the fall, the Commodore Scramble.

Opening up the tournament, Vanderbilt will take on Belmont in singles play Friday afternoon.

The Dores resume action Saturday competing against Belmont and UNC in both singles and doubles play.
