NASHVILLE, Tenn.– Head coach Ian Duvenhage and associate head coach Jamie Hunt are proud to announce that Billy Rowe has signed his National Letter of Intent to compete for the Vanderbilt Commodores.
“We’re extremely excited to have Billy (Rowe) joining our team,” said Hunt. He’s an outstanding young man that comes from a great family. He has all the values that we look for in a player; he’s hardworking, he’s positive and he just embodies the kind of player that we want to bring into our program. Billy is also a great student, and we’re just extremely excited to join us and we see him making great contributions to our program both on and off the court.”
A native of Coronado, Calif. Rowe heads to West End with several tournament championships titles under his belt and a No. 12 ranking in the country. Rowe also currently owns the No. 2 ranking in the Golden State, signing with the `Dores over Princeton and Cal.
Rowe currently competes for the Coronda High School Islanders, established a 21-0 record that includes 12 playoff matches for the CIF Division I Team Championships. In the Division I Team Finals, where Coronado took second place, Rowe lost only five games in 12 sets.
With tennis a family affair that stretches four generations, Billy continues on the family tradition of collegiate tennis, which was started by his great-grandfather and passed down. Jimbo Rowe, Billy’s father, played at University of Redlands; Lionel (Billy’s Grandfather) played at University of Virginia and Lionel’s father played for U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.
