Meet Weekend in Mississippi

Vanderbilt will compete at the Joe Walker Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt travels to Oxford, Mississippi, for Ole Miss’s Joe Walker Invitational Friday and Saturday. Several members of Vandy’s men’s cross country team will also be competing.

The Dores are coming off a split-meet weekend at Florida Relays and Raleigh Relays where they saw one school record fall and several NCAA and SEC-ranked performances, as well as a handful of Vandy all-time top 10 marks.

Friday in Raleigh, Julia Rosenberg ran the 5,000 meters for the first time in her career and broke the 10-year-old school record. Her time of 16:04.24 is third in the SEC thus far this season. Also running an event for the first time was Caroline Eck, who recorded the No. 3 mark in program history in the 10,000 meters. She turned in a time of 33:55.33.

In Gainesville, the Commodores recorded several top event finishes in field events. Vanderbilt student-athletes were second and third in the shot put; Veronica Fraley, the top SEC finisher in the event, was second overall with a 17.02-meter throw, and Sarah Omoregie came in third with a 16.57-meter mark.

Fraley was also the runner-up in the discus, throwing 60.07 meters. She is currently second in the SEC, fifth in the NCAA in the event.

Alix Still was the third-place finisher in the high jump, recording a 1.61-meter clearance.

Freshmen Lena Gooden and Anaya Webster each contributed two marks to the school’s all-time top 10 lists. Both Commodores jumped 5.80 meters in the long jump and are now tied for seventh in school history. Webster registered the fifth-best triple jump in Vandy history, recording an 11.66-meter mark. On the track, Gooden turned in a time of 24.08 seconds in the 200 meters, which ranks third on the school’s top 10 list.

In the hurdles, Falon Spearman recorded a wind-assisted personal-best time of 13.54 seconds (2.7 m/s) in the 100-meter race. Allyria McBride’s 57.86-second mark in the 400-meter hurdles is currently seventh in the SEC. She was the fourth collegiate, sixth overall event finisher.

Additionally, several Dores, including Haley Bishop, Ella Escobar, Ella Lambert and Madison Murry improved upon their season and personal-best marks.

Action in Oxford kicks off at 11 a.m. with the hammer throw. The meet is streamed by SEC Network+, and live results are available online.
